There was no issue of the newspaper on June 22, 1967 on account of Eid Miladun Nabi. The following extract and visual are from the previous day’s issue.

LONDON: Of the three Pakistani cricket teams to have visited Britain, the one that arrived on Sunday, June 10, is determined to return home with the best record.

Hanif Mohammad, the captain, indicated this after the team arrived in London. The team was the best Pakistani side to tour England, he said. And the talented captain, Hanif, should know —– he has appeared in 48 of the 50 Tests his country has played. He said the team had great all-round strength and ability, yet was younger and more experienced in English conditions than the Pakistani sides that visited Britain in 1954 and 1962.

“We have won only one Test in England — at the Oval in 1954. But we plan to add to that this time, preferably before we get to the Oval”.

Only four players have not experienced English conditions; thus, generally speaking, the tourists will not be greatly disturbed by the unpredictable English weather. Further, several of the team had played in English League and County Cricket and this, too, would help the side settle down early on in the tour.

The team will have their first practice tomorrow [June 21] at Lord’s cricket ground and will go on to the Oval for further practice before playing their first match against Essex at Colchester on Wednesday, June 28.

[Meanwhile, as reported by agencies in Aden,] An Arab machinegunner mowed down and killed seven British soldiers during a mutiny of South Arabian troops here today [June 20], a British command spokesman said. Two other British soldiers and a civilian were killed in the fighting as British troops “restored order,” he said. The spokesman said the soldiers’ bodies were so full of bullets that they could hardly be lifted.
