RAWALPINDI: A child was killed and five members of his family were injured after a fire broke out in their home due to a short circuit in Khurram Colony on Sunday.

Police and victims said Jawad Shah, 7, suffered fatal head injuries as a result of an electric shock he received after an iron rod hit high tension electric wires crossing over the rooftop of his house.

Police said that as the current passed through the iron grill and hit the electricity supply system, the boy, who was playing on the roof, fell and injured his head.

The investigating officer said the electricity metre burst after the iron rid hit the wires, adding that the boy died due to a head injury that resulted from the electric shock.

The child’s father Naseer Shah and his 13-year-old sister Rabia were also injured after they were trapped in a fire that resulted from the short circuit. Munir Shah, Mr Shah’s brother, who was living in the same house with his wife Saima, 22, and eight month old baby Haroon Shah were also injured.

All the injured victims were taken to the Holy Family Hospital, where they were stated to be in stable condition.

Separately, a young man was allegedly killed by his father over a family dispute in the Kahuta area on Sunday, police said.

Inam Nabi, 23, was serving in the navy. Police said he fought with his father after shifting to a separate house with his wife and mother.

They said Nabi’s father and Nabi fought over the matter on Sunday, and during the quarrel his father, a retired army official, pulled out a gun and shot him.
