ISLAMABAD: Nazar Abbas, 42, wanted to lose weight and visited a clinic in Sector G-8 where he was advised liposuction to remove fats from his body.

However, after undergoing the procedure, Mr Abbas lost his life at the clinic run by a fake doctor in the heart of the capital.

The police have arrested the suspect.

Doctors use a procedure called liposuction to remove fat from the body by suction.

During the procedure, small, thin, blunt-tipped tubes (cannula) are inserted into the body through tiny cuts in the skin.

The fat is suctioned out through these tubes as the doctor moves the tubes around under the skin to target specific fat deposits.

Mr Abbas, who worked with the National Rural Support Programme (NRSP), was operated upon at the clinic on April 6 and discharged the same evening.

However, the very next day he went back to the clinic with the complaint of discomfort.

The ‘doctor’ advised him to visit Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) saying it might be a cardiac problem.

However, after conducting some tests and keeping him under observation for a few hours, the doctors at Pims discharged him saying he was not having any cardiac problem.

“By April 9, the condition of my brother deteriorated. As we live in I-9, we took him to the Holy Family Hospital where doctors said an infection had spread in the body,” Khizar Abbas, a brother of Mr Nazar, told Dawn.

He said by evening, doctors at the HFH conducted a surgery and informed the family that there were at least five punctures in the intestine due to which all the fluid was leaking into the belly, causing the infection. Mr Nazar died of the severe infection on April 10, he added.

“I reached the conclusion that my brother lost his life due to the liposuction conducted at the private clinic. I started inquiring about the doctor and learnt that he was just a ward boy in a hospital and had started practicing as a doctor,” he alleged.

“I checked the registration number being used by the ‘doctor’ with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and was shocked to learn that it was of an eye specialist based in Sargodha.” He said later he filed an application with the Karachi Company police stating that his brother was murdered. The police transferred the case to the Ramna police which had a homicide department.

He said the suspect was arrested by the police and was now in jail on judicial remand. “I cannot get my brother back but want to save other people. I appeal to the citizens not to go to any clinic without confirming the authenticity of the doctors there.”

He said people want to become smart and instead of doing exercise and hard work preferred the surgery for losing weight. However, in the end, they face medical problems and sometimes even lose their life.
