Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Umer ur Rehman was killed and another police officer injured following a firing incident in Quetta's Huddah area on Monday evening, said police.

The injured sub-inspector, identified as Bilal Shams, was the nephew of the deceased DSP.

DSP Umer and SI Shams are said to be the brother and the son, respectively, of DSP Shams ur Rehman who was killed in a suicide bombing in Quetta's police line on August 8, 2013.

Police officials told DawnNews that the two officers were going to their residence in Hudda area when armed men opened fire on their vehicle near District Jail Quetta.

The DSP received a bullet wound to his head, whereas, Bilal Shams received a bullet in his leg. The two police officers were rushed to Civil Hospital Quetta for medical treatment.

Police said the assailants sped away on their motorcycle following the attack. Policemen and personnel of other law enforcement agencies reached the spot as the investigation into the incident went underway. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
