PPP welcomes exchange of N-lists

Published January 4, 2002

ISLAMABAD, Jan 3: A spokesman for the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has welcomed the decision of Pakistan and India to abide by the agreement under which the two countries are required to exchange lists of their nuclear installations.

The PPP spokesman recalled that the agreement was signed when a PPP government was in power. He termed the agreement a gift of the PPP.

He hoped that the far-sighted policy of Ms Bhutto and the PPP would not only save the region from a nuclear war but also from a conventional war.

The lists of nuclear facilities are exchanged on January 1 every year under Article 2 of a bilateral agreement that prohibits attacks on nuclear installations. The agreement was signed in December 1988 during the Rajiv-Benazir talks as one of confidence-building measures between the two countries.
