RAWALPINDI: Local chapter of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday staged a protest against water shortage in the garrison city.
More than 50 residents of Milat Colony, Dhoke Khaba, Mohallah Hukamdad, Glass Factory and adjoining areas gathered at Raja Zafarul Haq Road near Committee Chowk..
The protesters were carrying placards and the sample of dirty water in bottles, which they claimed was being supplied to them. They also chanted slogans against the provincial government for its failure to provide basic necessity of life.
Speaking on the occasion, PTI City General Secretary Zaheer Ahmed Awan said the provincial government claimed to provide clean drinking water in the province but the areas where people elected PTI MPAs were being ignored.
He said that the filters of filtration plant at Raja Zafarul haq Road had not been changed for the last many years and the people were drinking contaminated water. He said that the water shortage was the main issue in the area.
He said that PTI would stage sit-in outside Water and Sanitation Agency Offices if the provincial government failed to provide water to the garrison city and improve the filtration plants.
