FAISALABAD: City Police Officer (CPO) Afzaal Ahmed Kausar suspended the Jaranwala Sadar station house officer (SHO) who complained to him about his superintendent of police’s (SP) alleged use of abusive language with him and other subordinates.

SHO Mian Younas had on Friday registered a report in his own police station alleging that during a meeting attended by several officers, Jaranwala SP Najeebullah Pindrani had used derogatory language against Younas and his family. He told the SP that he could not stay anymore and was leaving.

According to the report, the SHO stated that he could not perform his duties in such circumstances and was leaving for the police lines. He also asked his moharrar to dispatch this report to senior officers.

Sources said the SP’s subordinates were not comfortable with him due to his abusive language. A number of times, senior officers had been requested to intervene so that the force could work efficiently, but in vain.

They said SHO Younas was asked by his friends to refrain from registering a report against the SP as he would not get justice and the officers would support the SP.

CPO Kausar told Dawn that the incident between the SP and SHO was being probed.

He said the SHO had been suspended as he had left without informing the officers concerned and did not contact any official. The SHO did not even meet him, he claimed.

DPS teachers: The Divisional Public School (DPS) and College teachers called off their protest after 23 days following assurance of the commissioner that their issues will be resolved.

The teachers were protesting by wearing black armbands and setting up a protest camp outside the campus building. They have been demanding revised pay scales on the lines of those for teachers of DPS Lahore.

Issuing a handout on Tuesday, the teachers said that they had postponed their strike after an assurance by the authorities concerned.

The decision was taken following a meeting held on Tuesday between DPS staff and Assistant Commissioner Shafqatullah Mushtaq at the commissioner’s office.

During the meeting, Mushtaq, who was representing the commissioner, promised to restore the scales and increase salary.

Following the assurance, the teachers announced that they were postponing their strike. They expressed hope that the authorities would fulfil their promise in letter and spirit.

CHICKENPOX: Another man suffering from chickenpox died at the Allied Hospital on Tuesday, taking the death toll from the disease since March to 21.

Adnan Haidar, 25, of Syedwala, Nankana Sahib was brought to the hospital on Monday after he had developed high fever on Wednesday. Haidar was allegedly a drug addict.

Sensing the critical condition of the patient, the doctors put him on ventilator, but to no avail.
