KARACHI, Aug 3: Sindh Minister for Women Development Dr Saeeda Malik has said that at least two handicrafts made by women of rural areas of Sindh will be displayed in the coming Saarc conference in Islamabad.

The minister was speaking at the inaugural session of a three-day seminar for district officers of social welfare department here on Sunday.

The objective of the seminar held under auspices of the GRAP project was to identify ways and means to ensure maximum participation of women in all fields and steps that could be taken at district level for women development.

The minister said that the government had planned to set up display centres to promote marketing of handicrafts, including Ajrak, cap, Ralli and embroidery items, made by women in rural areas. She said that the government would purchase these products from these centres, which might be opened at district level if needed.

Dr Malik said that with the financial support of Asian Development Bank (ADB), the welfare projects like GRAP would also be introduced in other provinces.—APP
