KARACHI: Jamaat-i-Islami emir Sirajul Haq on Friday criticised the government for what he called its failure to effectively handle the case of convicted Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav at the International Court of Justice which stayed his execution.

He said the government was not taking the issue seriously, adding that the case was likely to meet the same fate like that of Raymond Davis.

Addressing lawyers at the City Courts, the JI chief said Pakistan was blessed with abundant natural resources, but its economy had been left at the mercy of the International Monetary Fund which was managing “our electricity and gas”.

He said he had appealed to the former chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, when he was in office, to bring the culprits involved in the May 12 mayhem to justice, but the latter said he could not take up the case because he himself was a party.
