ISLAMABAD: Some officials of the capital police were found keeping outsiders in police stations and lines without authority thus putting the security of the police and its installations at a risk.

Dawn has learnt from officials in the police that the issue was brought under the notice of senior officers a few weeks ago. They were informed that unconcerned private people were living along with police officials in barracks and residential blocks/areas in the police stations and other installations, including lines.

The outsiders were given the accommodations on personal grantees and some of them were even paying rent for the accommodations.

“A majority of the outsiders used the barracks and residential blocks/areas for keeping their belongings and sleeping at night,” the officials stated. Most of the outsiders were only found on the premises during nighttime as during the daytime they left the buildings to earn livelihoods in different parts of the city.

It was also informed that some police officials stationed at different wings were using barracks or residential blocks reserved for the officials of other wings. Similarly, the barracks or residential areas of police stations were also used by officials who were not deployed there.

The senior police officers were informed that such practices not only put the lives of the police officials at risk but were also a security risk for the installations.

Later, the senior police officers, including the inspector general of the police, started inspecting the police installations, including police stations. During the process, however, nothing suspicious was detected as it was conducted during the daytime.

But some police officials were found staying in barracks reserved for the policemen of other wings.

The IGP visited the Ramna police station and found such irregularity there, the officials stated. Later, an order was issued from the office of the IGP to all the SSPs, SDPOs and station house officers, asking them to ensure that policemen used barracks where they were deployed. Those using the barracks of other wings should be shifted to their own stations.

It was further ordered that supervisory officers, SHOs and Moharars should implement the order and report back to the IGP office.
