KARACHI: Despite losing their last fixture to Nazimabad Mujahid by a solitary goal on Friday, Gulberg Hockey Club cruised into the quarter-finals of the late Munawwar-uz-Zaman Veterans Hockey League in floodlights at the Olympian Iftilhar Syed Sports Academy (OISSA).

Inside right Irfan Shaikh slammed the all important goal off penalty corner in the 13th minute.

In another match Central Fitness Hockey Club carved out 2-0 victory over Airport Hockey Club to seize a place in the last eight from pool A.

Right winger Ayub Khan forged the winning team ahead in the 17th minute while spearhead Asif Ismail made it 2-0 in the 24th minute.

Earlier, the event resumed on Friday after observing a days rest.

The eight teams that have qualified for the quarter-finals include Al Faisal Hockey Club and Central Fitness Hockey Club (A), Gulberg Hockey Club and Police Boys Hockey Club (B), Pak Veterans and Pak Telecom (C), OISSA and AO Hockey Club (D).
