MINGORA: A local teenager has claimed to have developed a mathematical theorem, which enables mathematicians to construct every angle in a circle with the help of compass.

In geometry, mathematicians believe that a circle has 360 degrees and only 15 degree angle and its multiples are constructible by using compass.

However, 17-year-old Ibrarul Haq, a resident of remote Pishmal village in Bahrain tehsil, has developed a formula, which has made it possible for the first time in history to construct angles from 1 to 360 degrees with the help of compass.

He proved his formula to a gathering of mathematicians, engineers and other educationists at his school, Ilam Public School, in Amankot by drawing the circle on a whiteboard. He received high applause from the mathematicians.

His formula is L=r(theta)/n60.

“I have started working on my theorem when I was in 7th grade. After two years of continuous research, I managed to develop the theorem by which we can easily construct every positive integer angel in a circle using compass,” he told Dawn.

He added that he presented it to the world as he was sure about his theorem.

Mr Haq said that he already sent his research paper to International Journal of Mathematics Trends and Technology where it would be published.

Ghausur Rehman, a PhD in mathematics and assistant professor at University of Swat, said that the theorem was quite sound and correct.

“The formula he (Ibrarul Haq) proposed is a type of conjecture now and an extension of the existence literature in geometry which says that using compass only 15 degree angle or its multiples can be constructed in a circle. The new formula is correct by now and mathematically sound,” he told Dawn.

Similarly, Attaullah Jan, another mathematician, also endorsed his theorem and said that if no counter example came on it then it would really be a unique achievement.
