PESHAWAR, Aug 2: The commissioner Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR), Masoodur Rehman, on Saturday issued notice to the Mohmand Agency’s political agent in an appeal filed by a person against his detention by the tribal administration.

The appellant, Haji Hamesh Gul, stated that he was kidnapped by another inhabitant of Mohmand Agency and the administration recovered him. However, he added that instead of being released upon his recovery he was kept in illegal detention by the administration.

Advocate Iqbal Mohmand appeared for the appellant and argued that there was no provision in the FCR which could empower the political agent to arrest a kidnapped person. He stated that it was a great injustice meted out to the abductee.

The appellant claimed that he was abducted on July 2 by Niaz Muhammad of Ghalanai. He added that the accused Niaz Muhammad had some monetary dispute with an influential of the area, Haji Behroz Khan, and he kidnapped him believing that he was a relative of Haji Behroz.

The appellant claimed that he was neither a relative of Haji Behroz nor had he anything to do with the monetary dispute of the two persons.

His application for release was dismissed by the administration of Mohmand Agency against which he filed the instant appeal.
