LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has told the representatives of various companies that there would be no sale of carbonated drinks in schools after summer vacation.
“Under our new regulations, we have imposed a ban on the entire carbonated drinks as it is injurious to health, affecting physical growth of children, especially,” PFA Director General Noorul Amin Mengal said at a meeting on Thursday.
“Since we have included all such drinks in our red-zone, these will not be allowed to be sold in schools’ cafeterias and within 100 metre radius of such premises after the summer vacation.”
“If any company, individual or group found involved in supplying and selling these drinks, there will be a strict action under the law that may lead to cancellation of licence besides other punishment,” he warned.
However, he said, under the green-zone, the food items such as fruits, fruitchat, milkshake and the milk and yogurt products would be sold to the students.
The company representatives on the occasion assured him of full cooperation towards implementing the new regulations.
