United States Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale on Thursday inaugurated a reconstructed building of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Karachi which had been levelled by a bomb blast in November 2010, a US embassy press release said.

At least 20 people were killed and over 100 injured with the powerful bomb attack razing the building.

The US contributed Rs24 million for the building's reconstruction through the State Department's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, the statement said.

It added that the ambassador's presence at the inauguration ceremony "underscored the US commitment to fight against terror."

"Today, we mark the resolve of Pakistan and the US to overcome acts of terrorism as we inaugurate this new CTD building," Hale said at the inauguration.

"We are proud to have contributed to the new facility, and glad that it will support the Sindh Police counter-terrorism efforts," he added.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) A.D. Khawaja and Additional Inspector General of the CTD Dr Sanaullah Abbasi were also present at the inauguration ceremony.

The ambassador "lauded efforts" of the IGP and his team to "modernise training, develop closer community relations, and enhance security towards the goal of peace," the press release added.
