ISLAMABAD: The National Highway Authority (NHA) is working on a survey to connect Astore to Azad Jammu and Kashmir through a road link, it informed a parliamentary committee on Wednesday.

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Communications met at the Parliament House with MNA Muhammad Muzammil Qureshi in the chair. The NHA officials briefed the committee about several ongoing projects in the northern areas, including the Skardu-Gilgit road, which would take about seven months to complete. The road would have three bridges — two of which would be imported from England. Officials said that tenders and other procedural matters of the project had been completed while work would start in August.

The committee was informed that mega projects such as the M-9, Green Line and Lyari Expressway would be completed within the stipulated time.

The committee cautioned that no delay in any project would be tolerated.

The meeting was attended by MNAs Sar Zamin Khan, Chaudhry Khalid Javaid Warraich, Maiza Hameed, Nazir Ahmed Bughio, Ramesh Lal, Salim Rehman, Hamidul Haq Khalil, Maulana Qamaruddin, Sahibzada Tariqullah, Naseema Hafeez Panezai and officials of the ministry.
