SUKKUR: The Sindh High Court’s Sukkur bench comprising Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Rasheed Ahmed Soomro on Tuesday granted bail before arrest to MPA Owais Shah, his father, Abdul Qadir Shah, and others in a case registered against them by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Former chairman of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) Abdul Qadir Shah is facing an investigation by the FIA into alleged misuse of powers to establish construction companies in the name of his son, MPA Owais Shah and others. PEC registrar Abdul Rauf Shaikh, members of the enrolment committee, owners of different companies, contractors Zafar Mirani, Sirajuddin Shaikh and several other beneficiaries are included in the investigation.

Advocate Zulfiqar Ali Sangi on behalf of the accused filed an application in the court stating that due to the registration of case by the FIA [in Islamabad on April 25], his clients were being harassed and they were not able to pursue the case properly. The counsel prayed to court to grant pre-arrest bail to the applicants.

The bench granted them pre-arrest bail for two weeks in a sum of Rs100,000 each.

MPA Shah personally appeared before the bench for the hearing of the bail application.
