ISLAMABAD: A Canadian senator was robbed in F-6 Markaz, police said on Wednesday.

They said the victim, Salma Attaullahjan, is a Canadian senator of Pakistani origin, originally from Mardan. She was visiting Pakistan and stayed in Islamabad’s F-8 sector.

Ms Attaullahjan was shopping in F-6 when she was intercepted by two men on a motorcycle, who snatched her valuables and fled.

In a complaint to the police, she said the suspects stole 4,200 Canadian dollars, Rs62,000, gold ornaments and identification documents.

In a separate incident, two armed individuals intercepted Munibur Rehman, held him at gunpoint and robbed him of Rs1.5 million in cash before trying to escape.

The victim sought the help of passersby and they chased the robbers and successfully overpowered them. The suspects were then handed over to the police for legal action, they added.
