MANSEHRA: The prolonged struggle of nazims and naib nazims of 194 village and neighbourhood councils have paid off as the provincial government released money for their honorarium and other perks for the current fiscal after a delay of almost 10 months.

Assistant director of the local government department, Mansehra, Ziaur Rehman Jadoon told reporters here that the finance department had released Rs14 million for honorariums and allowances to nazims and naib nazims on the recommendation of the local government department.

He said the funds were being transferred to the relevant bank accounts.

“The money will be paid to nazims and naib nazims of 194 village and neighbourhood councils for the current fiscal,” he said.


LG men denied honorarium, other perks for around 10 months


Mr Jadoon said the government had already given three quarterly tranches of developmental chuck of the budget to village and neighbourhood councils and the last would be released before the current financial year ended.

Chairman of the nazim alliance Basharat Ali welcomed the release of the overdue money and attributed it to the association’s struggle against denial of honorariums and allowances.

He said after getting the payments, nazims and naib nazims would work more diligently for the people’s welfare.

CHINESE CONVERTS TO ISLAM: A Chinese engineer working on a China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project in Baffa on Tuesday converted to Islam.

Alolai changed his name to Abdullah after formally converting to Islam at a local mosque.

He said he much impressed by the brotherhood of Muslims and their way to pay respects to the deceased before burial.

Local resident Shafqat said the Chinese engineer had been learning about Islam since his arrival in the town around three years ago.

MAN KILLED: A man was killed over an old enmity in Oghi here on Monday night. The local police said two men barged into Mohammad Juhind’s Hawa Galli house and axed him to death before fleeing.

They said the family of the deceased had named Mohammad Shoaib and Abdul Haq as murder suspects.

The police said they had begun conducting raids to arrest suspects after registering the case. However, no arrests were made by night.

The body was handed over to the family after a postmortem was performed on it at the Civil Hospital Oghi.
