A police guard murdered the 27-year-old son of deputy inspector general (DIG) of Peshawar police at their residence in Karachi's Defence Housing Authority (DHA) early Saturday, police said.
Umair Shahab, son of DIG inquiries and inspection Peshawar Shahab Mazhar Wali, was strangled to death by Faqir Mohammad, a police guard stationed for security at their house in Khayaban-e-Seher of DHA Phase 6 during a scuffle.
After killing Umair, the suspect locked himself in a room. Police broke down the door and took him into custody.
According to police, Faqir Mohammad in his confessional statement said he had intended to ask Umair's mother to give him Rs200,000, which he wanted to send to his family in his native village. When he tried to approach the woman to ask her for the amount, he was accosted by Umair, who stopped him from going upstairs to his mother's room.
During the scuffle that ensued between the two, the guard put a noose around Umair's neck and strangled him to death at around 2:30 in the morning.
Police reached the house after the incident and started an investigation into the murder after arresting the security guard.
A police official speaking to DawnNews said Faqir Mohammad hails from Sindh's Kashmore district and was serving as a security guard at DIG's Shahab's house for past 6-7 months.

You can not even trust security guards. It is better to learn how to protect yourself. I do not consider Police is professional at all, because they do not know what a professional policeman should do. I was in a meeting with SHO and others few days ago in Karachi. I could not believe police officers were sleeping in their offices. Sindh Police is very unprofessional, dishonest, uneducated and not fit for their duties. These people were hired due to to the language they speech not the Merit basis. Top to bottom needed to be overhauled.

Very unfortunate for the GIG's family. This is an eye-opener case for the society. The Police Guard kills someone he was supposed to guard and that too of a family member of police DIG. Timing of the crime is very suspicious. It needs a thorough investigation.

Why these murder stories always have basic gaps which no one can believe? Guard going to officers wife for money at 2am and ended up killing son. Ridiculous story. The story is plain and simple which is being covered up.

Apart from news how can these people in police can afford houses in DHA? I know many of my friends who's father was at very good posts but they are living in rented houses in middle class areas and that includes me.

Why we always guess rather than going deep into the matter, own a house in Karachi... what it mean. May be he belongs to Karachi but performing duties in KP. Let me retrieve who pointed out the malign of professionalism of police in Karachi. Can anybody who commented against tell me, what benefits they are getting so far from Sindh or Federal Government? Housing scheme, free medical, free education for their children and many more like for armed forces, getting free while doing duties... I know that there are flaws in our system. Some may great but some may be beyond the streamline. Laws in need of rectification as the mechanics and dynamics proceeding to the dark hole of hell!

To begin with, how was this guard inside the house at 2:30 AM in the first place? And reportedly,he was headed upstairs to the room of the DIG's wife who is old enough to have a grown son? Then he locks himself up on the bathroom? The whole thing is incredulous and doesn't make any rational sense at all. Moreover, the Rs200,000 that he claims as what he intended to ask for, is not pocket change, that any housewife would have lying around, and would extend to a house-worker. This story has more holes than a chunk of Swiss cheese.

Tragic incident a man killed by his own guard, first was there was a petty issue or a behaviour of the deceased? second what was guard doing inside the house as the timing is really strange and most importantly nobody came out during the scuffle as there would be some other guards also deployed at the residence of a police official.

The son probably walked in on a scene of crime and the guard killed him to save the DIGs wife. Unless a trained police constable is sure of being saved himself he is not naive to hide in a room and wait for police to arrest him. How is that theory?
