A woman has confessed to strangling her daughter to death at the behest of her husband and brother-in-law in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Shangla district, police said Friday.

Addressing a news conference, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alpuri Mohammad Riaz Khan said 12-year-old Gul Naz had been murdered on Wednesday night. After her death, the girl's mother, Naseeb Ranra, had filed a complaint and accused her husband Noor Muhammad and brother-in-law Sher Muhammad of killing her.

Police had, however, taken Ranra into custody suspecting her involvement in the murder. During interrogation, she confessed that she herself killed her daughter by strangling her at night, the DSP said.

He said the victim's mother claimed that she killed her daughter at the behest of her husband and brother-in-law. Ranra was quoted as saying that her daughter had a month earlier complained to the police that her father used to beat her up and even cut her hair at times. Police had then arrested the girl's father in a case filed under Section 107 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) but he was later released on bail.

After securing bail, the girl's father went to Darra Adam Khel and later called Ranra and asked her to kill their daughter Gul Naz before he returned, the DSP quoted the accused woman as saying.

The woman also claimed that her husband and brother-in-law had threatened to kill her if she did not kill the girl. Fearing this, the woman said she strangled her daughter to death while she was sleeping in her room.

The police official said cases have been registered against the three accused under Sections 302 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code in Alpuri Police Station. Ranra's husband and brother-in-law have also been taken into custody.

The accused woman was produced in a local court where she confessed to killing her daughter, the DSP said.

Sad incident. Made me cry. How can someone kill their daughter to save herself. She will now die everyday for what she has done. May almighty bless the poor soul.

Wow. What a mother you turned out to be.

M.Saeed Apr 21, 2017 03:51pm

This is more of the crime of father than the mother who committed the crime to save her own life. Ignorance made her killer. Otherwise she should have gone to the police earlier and ensured her safety from her husband and brother.

Is there any humanity left

Kind soul Apr 21, 2017 04:15pm

How innocent!

Feroz Apr 21, 2017 04:32pm

Does one commit a murder when asked to by whoever ? Must be mentally challenged to believe one can get away with murder.

Abdul Apr 21, 2017 04:45pm

This is awfully sad. A mother taking the life of her own daughter. Why father used to beat her up and why would he want her killed. Seems like a very dysfunctional family. Did he hate girls, are there other daughters who need to be saved in the family?! It's beyond reprehensible.

asad Apr 21, 2017 04:49pm

shame to all of us for having such mindsets in the society.

prafulla Apr 21, 2017 04:54pm

@Realty check No, we are no more human beings.

Account of killing mother is vague. There is no clearance in her statement that why father used to beat his daughter and why eventually got her daughter killed??

ADNAN MAZHER khan Apr 21, 2017 05:16pm

Impossible to assimilate this brutality.

Ahmer Apr 21, 2017 05:25pm

How come this world is still intact? Why doesn't it end already?

JA-Australia Apr 21, 2017 05:55pm

Possibly one of the men killed the girl and the mother was forced to take the blame. Only a proper investigation can tell.

Skkk Apr 21, 2017 06:11pm

Can not understand the logic she presented??

I feel so sad for what would the kid have gone through. Now the mother will live in hell till her death-its a double murder.

Alba Apr 21, 2017 06:53pm

She killed her daughter because her husband told her to. How stupid can people get?

imran ali Apr 21, 2017 07:07pm

whole society has become sick...

Hussain Ahmad Apr 21, 2017 07:45pm

It is really very very sad news. It appears that the killer mother of the deceased has been subjected to coercion by the husband. But they are responsible for the killing of innocent girl and they all should be punished.

a report from stone age

Marata Apr 21, 2017 10:43pm

This is not the actual reason which she is telling, there is something fishy in which she is hiding

Inna lillahe wa inna eli he rajeoon, fare well little sole, and isnhallah your killers will face Divine justice in this life and next life while you will be enjoying your little life in heavens, inshalalh. Ameen.

Have these people no knowledge of their region of Islam. The father beating his daughter regularly and mother strangling her. Hard to believe they are Pakistanis. This is not in our culture, religion or customs. We pray for the little girl , who was betrayed by the two people one trusts the most on earth.

Dr yas Apr 22, 2017 03:55am

Why did the daughter go to the police to complain about the father? And then he wanted her killed. Did he abuse the girl? There should be a proper post-mortem by competent doctors to determine this. Abuse of girls, and boys, is not uncommon, sadly. Children should be taught what is inappropriate touching, speech, looks, body language, and what abuse is. They should be told how to handle this and run to a 'safe' adult and get help/protection.

Sadia Khalil Apr 22, 2017 11:41am

It could be that she not just she beaten by father and uncle, but could have been sexually assaulted by them, and is killed due to family honor. Her postmortem report should reveal it, as I don't think that any mother can kill a daughter just for the fear of her own life. It could be a case of child abuse.

Sadia Khalil Apr 22, 2017 11:46am

@Dr yas: I totally agree with you and suspect the same. People in this country still can't comprehend that most of the time a child is abused by a close family relative, including father or uncle. Often such incidents are not reported by families for the sake of family honor.

Rp Apr 23, 2017 06:23am

@Sadia Khalil - I agree with you 200% - chances of sexual abuse by the father or even his brother in law are significant!
