KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah appointed Ziaul Hasan Lanjar as provincial law minister on Monday. He was sworn in by Sindh Governor Mohammad Zubair at a simple ceremony held at Governor House.
Later, the CM allocated the portfolio of law to Mr Lanjar, who was elected as a member of the Sindh Assembly from Naushahro Feroze.
The lone woman minister in Mr Shah’s cabinet, Shamim Mumtaz, was de-notified on the recommendations of the CM by the governor. However, she kept her position as a member of Mr Shah’s cabinet as she was appointed as the chief minister’s adviser on social welfare.
Mr Shah’s cabinet is comprised of 18 ministers, two advisers and nine special assistants.
Earlier, the CM called on Gov Zubair and discussed with him matters relating to the overall law and order situation, different development projects and other issues.
They reiterated their commitment to continue the Karachi operation until its logical end.
The governor said that a conducive atmosphere for investors in the province would be ensured and in this connection the Rangers, police and other law enforcement agencies would be provided all possible resources.
They also pledged to complete ongoing development projects on time and the government would utilise all resources to provide maximum relief to the people.
PA session tomorrow
Gov Zubair on Monday summoned the provincial assembly session on April 12 at 10am at the Sindh Assembly Building.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the CM is likely to extend the police powers of the Sindh Rangers for another 90 days. A summary in this regard has been sent from the home department to the CM House for approval. The Rangers special powers are set to expire on April 15.
Constitution Day
Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani said that a resolution regarding the Constitution Day would be tabled in the house during the assembly session beginning from Wednesday.
He said that the PPP was proud to celebrate Constitution Day — the day when Zulfikar Ali Bhutto got the 1973 Constitution adopted unanimously by the National Assembly.
The speaker said this while speaking at a function organised in the Sindh Assembly building on Monday evening to commemorate Constitution Day.
He expressed gratitude to National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani for commemorating the 44th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution.
