PESHAWAR: The district administration on Friday sealed 12 commercial plazas in the University Town here for operating in the residential area.

The district administration took the action against the commercial activities in the residential area in the light of the directives of the Peshawar High Court.

According to a press statement issued here, deputy commissioner Saqib Raza Aslam said no commercial activities would be allowed in the University Town in the best interest of its residents. The operation would continue until shifting all the commercial activities from the residential area, he added.

On the direction of the DC, a team consisting of officials of the district administration, Town-III and police led by additional deputy commissioner Fayaz Sherpao was formed for action against the commercial activities.

The offices of NGOs, superstores, hostels and clinics operating in the University Town area since long were sealed.

The raiding teams also visited 90 business centres to confirm their closures after were sealed a few months ago. All the businesses operating in these centres have been shifted to some other areas.
