LAHORE, July 28: Liaquat Baloch on Monday took oath as acting amir of the Punjab Jamaat-i-Islami here at Mansoora.

JI amir Qazi Husain Ahmed administered the oath.

The members of the Punjab Shoora met on Monday under the chairmanship of Hafiz Muhammad Idress to elect a new acting amir for an interim period of two months.

The office of the Punjab amir was lying vacant after the retirement of Hafiz Muhammad Idress on the completion of his four-year term. The members of the Punjab JI will elect a new amir for the next four years after two months according to the party constitution.—APP
