Ministry of Interior Secretary Arif Ahmed Khan was removed from his post on Tuesday, a spokesperson at the interior ministry said.

Khan's services were handed over to the Establishment Division, the spokesperson added.

Additional Secretary Interior Tariq Mehmood Khan has been given the charge, the interior ministry said.

Khan was appointed secretary interior in Feb 2016 while he was serving as secretary climate change.

He had previously served as an additional secretary in the interior ministry for a brief period in 2014.

He had also worked as a home secretary in Sindh for over three years, a deputy commissioner in three districts of Sindh, and held the positions of finance secretary and additional chief secretary (Planning and Development).

Khan had also served previously as Pakistan’s consul general in Montreal, Canada.
