Pemra slaps five-day ban on Geo morning show for 'airing objectionable content'

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Thursday slapped a five-day ban on Geo TV morning show 'Geo Pakistan' for airing 'indecent' content.

A Pemra press release stated that the TV channel had been prohibited from broadcasting or rebroadcasting fresh, old or repeat content from April 3 to April 7 after it aired a clip of a man and woman kissing during its March 15 show, according to an earlier notice.

A Pemra source told Dawn.com the clip belonged to a Bollywood film.

The TV channel was fined Rs 1 million and directed to ensure the activate an in-house editorial committee "to ensure compliance of the Code of Conduct 2015".

"In case of non-compliance, a process for suspension of license under Section 30 of the Pemra Ordinance 2002 as amended by Pemra (Amendment) Act 2007 shall be initiated.

This is a planned conspiracy dear pemra. Slowly inject a thought, the human nature will make it big. And this is how one induces their negative cultural influence and start damaging the ideology. Making an in house editorial group to crop out indecent material will not to any thing.

@Fawzia H but surely, u cannot relate these two things. He should b banned, yes. But to say " is that all they could find..." is a bit too much. Dont tell me that u think its an idea of spreading love. As for the same content aired on foreign channels, we have to protect our own culture and keep a space for family television.

No, it's not ok to ban things like this. Regardless of what else is shown on tv, it's not ok to ban a tv show because of this. A scene which is basically commonplace in the rest of the world, not just the west but nearly everywhere. It's gotten to the point where even the word love is vilified in polite company. We should be moderate in all paths of life being prudish to the point of ridiculousness is no less than ignoring an essential feeling of being human celebrated by all even our greatest poets.
