MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Sardar Masood Khan has asked the public sector universities to ensure fair, transparent and fault-free system of appointments.

“I wonder why allegations of nepotism, favouritism and regionalism are being levelled in the process of recruitments,” said Mr Khan, who is also the chancellor of public sector varsities in the region, at a meeting of vice chancellors (VCs), on Tuesday.

The president stressed that there should be no compromise on the quality and standard of education, and if necessary, faculty members should be given necessary training of teaching.

“It is the responsibility of universities to ensure good results and see to it that a good ratio of students get employment opportunities after completing their studies,” he said.

He said that accreditation of the disciplines with the concerned bodies should also be ensured.

“The VCs should be totally committed to improving the quality of education and maintaining the discipline in their respective higher educational institutions and should not let any finger be raised against them for nepotism or regionalism,” he stressed.

The VCs apprised the president of problems being faced by them as well as the progress taking place in different fields.

Those who attended the meeting included Vice Chancellor of the University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir Dr Khawaja Farooq Ahmed, Vice Chancellor of the University of Business Administration Kotli Dr Ghulam Ghous, Vice Chancellor of Women University Bagh Dr Muhammad Haleem Khan and Vice Chancellor of Mirpur University of Science and Technology Dr Raja Habibur Rehman.
