LARKANA: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that no one is above the law and anyone found to be lawbreaker will have to face action.

He was speaking to reporters after laying a wreath and offering Fateha on the graves at Bhuttos’ mausoleum in Garhi Khuda Bukhsh Bhutto on Sunday.

The chief minister observed the the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) had already distanced itself from the London-based MQM leadership including its founder leader. “Anyone belonging to the MQM-London who is found involved in breaking the law or anti-state activities will definitely be dealt with according to the law,” he said.

Commenting on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visits to Sindh, the chief minister said he should have come here much earlier, frequently and should also have visited more areas.

“Sindh is the part of the country and he is the prime minister. He may visit this part of the country whenever he wished so,” Mr Shah added.

In reply to a question about municipal services in Karachi, CM Shah said there was no dearth of vehicles and the municipalities in the mega city did have sufficient budget for garbage lifting as well. Unfortunately, the vehicles meant for the purpose had been lying damaged. He added in the same breath: “However, we [the Sindh government] are here to take responsibility of the job if elected local government appeared unable to perform this job specifically assigned to them”.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah later attended a meeting presided over by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh president Nisar Ahmed Khuhro.

The meeting reviewed arrangements for the programme to be held in Garhi Khuda Bukhsh Bhutto to observe the 38th death anniversary of PPP founder leader and former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on April 4.

Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, Minister for Agriculture Suhail Anwer Siyal, MPA Imtiaz Shaikh, and divisional and district office-bearers of the party and officials of various departments also attended the meeting.

Larkana Commissioner Ghulam Abbas Baloch briefed the participants about the arrangements.

Mr Khuhro told the meeting that the main function that day would start with Quran Khuwani and dua at 1pm which would be followed by a literary sitting (musharia) and speeches by senior party leaders. The programme would come to end at 6pm with address by the top party leaders, he added.

Mr Khuhro said that the party’s central executive committee would hold its meeting in Naudero at 7 pm the same day. He asked the divisional and district administrations to ensure foolproof security across Larkana division for the April 4 events.

Mr Khuhro called for a well-defined traffic plan so that participants in the anniversary programme did not face any trouble in moving from across the province to the venue of the main event. They should not also face problems in parking their vehicles, he added.

Besides, he said, the administration was supposed to ensure availability of drinking water to people and fixing of sign boards along various routes to guide travellers.

Speaking at the meeting, the chief minister asked the officials concerned to take strict security measures on the occasion “because the PPP is continuing to expand with new entries and a bigger than usual crowd is expecgted in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto on April 4”.

He also urged all party workers to take care of participants in the events.
