SAHIWAL: The University of Sahiwal was formally inaugurated here on Saturday at a ceremony, attended by teachers, students and political leaders.

The UoS has been developed under a Punjab Assembly act in 2014 and earlier it was the sub-campus of the Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, since 2005.

Earlier, the government had proposed upgrading the Sahiwal Postgraduate College into a university. Provincial Minister Malik Nadeem Kamran opened the campus.

The new campus has been allocated 35 acres more. The Punjab government has formed a vice-chancellor (VC) committee that will run day to day affairs of the UoS until the appointment of a regular VC.

More than 3,000 students are enrolled with post-graduate and bachelor programmes.
