Tesla Motors Inc will start taking orders for its solar roof tiles in April, Chief Executive Elon Musk said in a Tweet on Friday.
The solar-powered roof shingles were unveiled in October last year to show the benefits of combining his electric car maker with solar installer SolarCity Corp.
There was no detail on cost. Tesla has said previously the cost of the roof would be less than a conventional roof plus solar.
By incorporating solar modules into rooftops, Tesla is hoping to succeed with a solar technology that to date has had little success.

Biggest hurdle in Solar tiles is the reliable and durable linking technology that would supply current to the central power gathering module. It has to be capable of self regulating in necessary parameters.

@saudagar Tesla is 3 times costlier than the Japanese in batteries alone. In solar cells, China is almost 5 times cheaper than Tesla.

@AB, US funny! people of India and Pakistan fight each other for smart people invention as these great achievements done by them. Truth is that the only invention these countries have is uncontrollable breeding hate and dirt. That is why people of both countries move to western countries just like you Mr AB whenever they have a chance.

Not just the cost factor is out of whack for tesla .. the Tesla Motor venture is about to unravel in the next 6 months time. Toyota Mirai Hydrogen Fuel cell car is already in production and driving in California . Now thats the future of auto ..Benz and BMW are planning to introduce their hydrogen fuel models
