OKARA: A man allegedly threw acid on his former mother-in-law and brother-in-law on Tuesday night in Sukhpur on Dipalpur-Pakpattan road.

Basharat was married to Faiqa two years ago. A few months back, the couple had a dispute and Faiqa moved court for divorce.

On Tuesday night, Basharat went to his in-laws’ house and insisted to reconcile with Faiqa. Upon refusal, he threw acid on his former mother-in-law Nusrat Bibi and brother-in-law Hasan. Both were shifted to a hospital in Lahore in a critical condition.

Dipalpur Saddar police registered a case under sections 324 and 336-B of the PPC.

SECURITY: The Govt Technical Training Institute (GTTI) is under threat of theft as its northern boundary wall crumbled around a year ago and has not been rebuilt since then.

The institute is located in Chak 55/2-L some 3km to the east of the city. The GTTI administration claimed that they had informed the Punjab government and their parent authority, the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta), but so far there was no response to their request sent by Principal Tahir Mehmood Azami.

The institution had been established 20 years ago in the suburbs for producing skilled and technical people. Presently, more than 400 students were enrolled in two shifts in mechanical and civil diplomas of two years and eight short courses in plumbing, fitting, piping, electrician, computing and some others.

The boundary wall of the institute on its northern side crumbled after heavy rains a year ago.

District Manager Khurram Shafiq Chaudhry said that the GTTI was facing financial burden due to security guards deployed round the clock in the absence of a wall. The institute had informed Tevta but funds had not been allocated yet, he claimed. They had also proposed four elevated security posts at each corner of the boundary wall, 28 streetlights as well as CCTV cameras.
