Star Wars Land at Disney World to open in 2019

T ime to get excited friends because Disney’s new Star Wars-themed attraction finally has a tentative opening date.

While the exact date has yet to be confirmed, Disney’s CEO Bob Iger has announced that Star Wars Land will open to the public in 2019. Which basically means it’ll be opening in the same year as Star Wars Episode IX. The 14-acre attraction is being built in Disney World at Orlando, Florida at the moment, with a similar park also being constructed in Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

You’ve got two years to start saving for your visit, folks — but before then you’ll have plenty of Star Wars in your life thanks to the recent release of Rogue One, still showing at selected cinemas, and Star Wars Episode VIII coming later this year.

Han Solo spinoff film production starts

Production has officially started on Disney and Lucasfilm’s upcoming Star Wars standalone film about a young Han Solo.

“The movie will explore the duo’s adventures before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, including their early encounters with that other card-playing rogue from a galaxy far, far away, Lando Calrissian,” says the statement from the studio.

The cast and crew including Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo), Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, assembled for a group photo alongside the announcement inside the Millennium Falcon.

Written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, the still untitled Han Solo spinoff film is set to arrive in theatres May 25, 2018.
