Nasir Khan Durrani relinquishes charge as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IG

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's police chief Nasir Khan Durrani on Thursday relinquished charge as the inspector general of police after serving at the post for more than three years.

Durrani assumed the office of inspector general in 2013. His appointment came a day after twin blasts at a church in Peshawar which killed left 81 people and injured more than 100.

The former police chief is most noted for taking strict action against officers accused of negligence in their duties, including Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and acting Superintendents of Police (SPs), who were removed from service on account of misconduct.

According to a document DawnNews had obtained in September 2015, some 4,934 police officials were either removed from service or awarded other punishments on disciplinary grounds.

Durrani also introduced a Police Access System to address public complaints within the shortest possible time. He also introduced the I-Call system, establishing a round-the-clock direct link between himself and the public.

Additional Inspector General Syed Akhtar Ali Shah is the acting IGP until an official announcement is made.

First of all, I salute you sir for the service you have provided to the people as a public servant and same time I am furious and sad to see you go since all the corrupt officials will be reinstated after your departure and all of your hard work will be rolled back. I sure do hope that IK take notice of this and salvage this situation immediately.

I disagree with the reporting that Durrani assumed the office "on the condition" that there will be no political interference in his office. How could a police officer set a condition in KPK while he had been working whole his life in Punjab where political interference in police job is more than a normal practice? The reality is that it was not a condition from Durrani's side but an offer made by PTI leadership. I have full respect for Mr. Durrani for his honesty and professionalism but I will oppose when people try to take the credit from PTI and give it to others.

Imran Khan and PTI must support their honest police chief if they want to end the corruption in the country. Not sure why he steps down but if it is due to political intervention then this must be stopped. You cannot have hypocrisy and double standards if you are professing for corruption against other political parties.

Let us give credit where it is due. KPK government did not interfere in his domain which is in sharp contrast from Sindh & Punjab governments who constantly chop & change their IG's & other officers purely because they must toe their wishes & commands. Well done PTI!

He retired from service after superannuation.Moreover, a police bill was passed during his tenure wherein the power of CM for appointment and pisting of police officials were taken and were vested in IG,s hand.

Does anyone know the reason behind his relinquishing the job is he retired or what ? Can't say much about the man but the hype that some sort of miracles have been done in the police dept of KPK is just a hoax as per my experience. KPK police has always been better than the Punjab police and that still is the case. but portraying as if this man changed the whole story is just not true.

@concerned citizen when institutes are made, you need to trust the process rather than personalities. i.e. Army, it doesnt matter who takes charge, we have fair trust that the army personell will be honest and serves the country. Since Durrani has taken many corrupt out, chances of having a great honest individual at the helm is highly likely

i dont know him personally but the way terror incidents went down in kp and peshawar, speaks of his competence. kp is frontline of war on terror in pak. he led a force that must have been utterly demoralized due to battering for years. he transformed things. must definitely be a capable and sincere person salutes

WE sadly have this Badshah and riaya concept that once somebody good is in power they should continue indefinitely. The key to whether he has done his job properly is whether there are leaders that he has trained to take his place once his tenure is over for whatever reason. He is "EMPLOYED" to do this job which he has done well. Hopefully he has trained his juniors well and they will carry on their duties honestly annndddd leave (without extending) once they are done

1st decide in quite crystal clear terms as to what are the ground realities and then comment. My theses few questions need answers. Is he the dead honest IG? Did he in the truest sense of the word render meritorious services in KP? Is he touching retiring age? Did he resign or asked to resign? On the face of it I think he is spotless and if so then (a) President must confer some honor on him on 23rd March when many others will be conferred medals in any case (b) He should not be allowed to quit and sit at him instead he must be posted as Adviser in Interior ministry so that the country benefits from his rich experience. This show that there is no dearth of honest people in Pakistan. The a need is that these people should be given full responsibilities and independence. Then political elite should have the courage to bear the consequences of the decisions of these honest people.

First question that comes to mind is "Why did he step down"? Is it because of some political intervention or conflict? If that has been the case, then I think, Imran khan should jump in to solve the matter and try his best to salvage this situation. Durrani has earned a great reputation over the year and has been applauded many a time for his audacious stance. He brought drastic changes in police department and cleaned all the mess and corruption that had been plaguing and polluting the whole institute for many years. During his tenure, the power of appointing the police officers were vested in IG's hand and I think that is one of his remarkable achievements.He has set a legacy that must be followed.

Alas !! Mortals in Sindh can only dream of such people to head Sindh institutions and offcourse Sindh Govt also. Mr AD Khawaja is no different from Mr NK Durrani, if he were "allowed" to operate i have no doubt in my mind, he would have only fared better if not same as Mr Durrani. Sindh is probably the worst governed province in Asia. Even if you conduct a biased poll/survey, Sindh govt/PPP would never let anyone take that position away from them. 90 billion spent in Larkana division in last 5+ years is jewel in ppp's crown and no govt in Asia can even dream of beating that let alone come close.

Yes he is an honest officer no doubt about that, but the opportunity to perform his duties with that honesty was afforded to him by the honest provincial government of PTI .The officer had served for many years prior to assumeing charge as an IGP kp and in those years he was unable to bring about the reforms in the police force mainly due to corrupt politicians and that was not the case this time .He was encouraged and given full freedom to exercise his powers with dedication and pure professionalism .When there is no corruption at the top then you achieve these sorts of results. By the way PTI has done very well in many respects in KP .Look at education, health and other basic welfare initiatives taken in KP despite tight budgets and limited financial support from the Federal gov.
