KARACHI: Speakers at a consultative workshop to chart a strategy against a possible heatwave in the looming summer on Monday called for preparing an effective plan with the help of experts in coordination with the city administration to save lives.

The workshop was organised by the Karachi commissioner at a hotel in coordination with the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), LEADS Pakistan, ESSA technologies Ltd and the Urban Unit.

Commissioner Aijaz Khan said in his written message that the plan to safeguard people from the dangers of a heatwave would hugely help the administration in the coming months.

He asked the administration and other departments to work in coordination.

The heatwave plan, as the organisers said, was aimed at supporting the city in mitigation of extreme heat impacts in the coming summer.

“This plan focuses on building support for the city authorities, other departments and institutions concerned by providing them an effective emergency response system for informed decision-making and implementation,” organisers said.
