KASUR, July 25: Four people, including a tannery owner, were killed while two others fainted while removing the tannery waste from a poisonous chemical well at Niaznagar here on Friday.

Labourers Jamil Masih and Arshad alias Gudu of Green Kot village were trying to enter a 10-feet deep chemical waste well of Hafiz Brothers Tannery. Gas fumes were so poisonous that they could not sustain its effects, became unconscious and fell down in the well.

Alarmed by their hue and cry, tannery owner Hafiz Abdul Ghafoor and Ashraf rushed to the spot to rescue the labourers, but they also fainted and fell down in the well. Two labourers Niaz Ahmad and Bao, standing near the well, also became unconscious. They were rushed to the local DHQ Hospital where they were in stable condition.

On receiving information, City Circle DSP Zaheer Babar along with a heavy police contingent hastened to the spot and removed the bodies from the chemical waste well.

Police are going into the matter.
