Police in Rawalpindi arrested two men on Wednesday for the alleged abduction, rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl two days ago.

The two suspects allegedly kidnapped their neighbour's minor daughter in Rawalpindi's Ismailabad area on Monday and raped and asphyxiated her before dumping her body under a nearby bridge.

Station House Officer (SHO) Yasir Kiani of the Saddar police station said, "The two accused returned home after dumping the girl's body and even joined the search for the young girl. Later, a neighbour told the family that they had seen one of the accused with the young girl."

"When we took the accused into custody, he admitted to the whole thing," the officer said, adding that one of the accused confessed the details of the crime to police, including the other suspect's involvement in the case.

"Once the girl's body was recovered with the help of information provided by both accused, the two were arrested," the SHO said.

A First Information Report was registered against the suspects by the girl's brother and further investigation is underway.
