LAHORE, Dec 30: The Lahore High Court suspended on Tuesday the disqualification orders of the Nazim and Naib Nazim of Union Council 147 of Lahore and restored them.
The court also issued notice to the respondent to appear on Jan 22, 2004.
Nazim Muhammad Younis and Naib Nazim Muhammad Saleem had challenged the decision of a tribunal which had disqualified them for allegedly not fulfilling the conditions to contest the election.
DIRECTIVE TO POLICE: The Lahore High Court directed the Factory Area police not to harass a woman who married a man of her choice.
Justice M. Bilal Khan also directed the police officials to restrict themselves within the legal limits.
Hina Jilani had submitted that she had married Anwar Khan against the wishes of her parents. Her father got the couple implicated in a case and the Factory Area SHO started harassing them.
In another similar petition, the Lahore High Court restrained Hafizabad police from harassing Sidra and her husband.
Justice M. Ghani directed the Hafizabad police not to harass the couple.—APP
