NHA okays PC-I of two mega projects

ISLAMABAD, Jan 2: The Executive Board of National Highway Authority approved PC-I of Karachi-Northern Bypass Project and PC-I of Lyari Expressway Projects on Wednesday.

A meeting of Executive Board of the National Highway Authority was held on Wednesday at its head office. NHA Chairman Maj-Gen Farrukh Javed presided over the meeting.

The meeting discussed matters relating to construction, extension and maintenance of highways, administrative affairs of the Authority and welfare affairs of the employees.

Mr Malik M. Saeed Khan, Member/Additional Secretary of Planning & Development Division; Mr Asad Jahangir, Inspector-General of National Highways & Motorway Police; Mr Ashraf M. Hayat, Joint Secretary-II of Communications Division, NHA; Mr M. Amjad Virk, Member (Finance); and Syed Najmul Hasan, Member (Planning), participated in the meeting.

The meeting also discussed matters regarding award of installation, commissioning and maintenance of Electronic Toll and Traffic Management System Contracts on Karachi-Lahore-Peshawar National Highway.

The meeting also discussed administrative affairs of National Highway Authority. Matters relating to rehabilitation and improvement of the Karakoram Highway also came under consideration. The Executive Board also approved the Revision of Administrative Manual of the NHA.

Speaking on the occasion, Maj-Gen Farrukh Javed said the Karachi-Northern Bypass and Lyari Expressway projects had been included in the priority list of the government. These projects, he said, would pave the ground for further improvement in the traffic system of Karachi.

He said steps were under way for early start of the work on these two projects. He said, a new system of toll collection had been adopted under which the toll tax money would be used for construction and maintenance of highways.—APP
