SANGHAR: Jam Madad Ali, who recently broke off his 25-year association with the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) to join Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), filed his nomination papers on Friday for the PS-81 Sanghar seat vacated by his resignation. A by-election for the seat is to be held on April 3.

Jam Madad proceeded to the local Election Commission office in a big rally of PPP workers and supporters.

He won the PS-81 seat, which falls in Jam Nawaz Ali taluka of Sanghar district, in three successive elections on the PML-F ticket.

This time he will face his cousin, Jam Nafees Ali, who is being fielded by the PML-F and is expected to submit his nomination papers on Saturday.

Jam Nafees has served as taluka nazim on the ticket of PML-F.

Political quarters believe this will be a very tough contest between two cousins, one fielded by the PML-F — which regards the entire Sanghar district as its ‘invincible fort’ — and the PPP, which has dealt several blows to the PML-F in recent months.
