ISLAMABAD: An awareness campaign for safety of road users on Wednesday concluded as thousands of bikes were repaired free of cost and 65,000 people were educated about traffic rules and road safety measures during the 15-day campaign.

The Islamabad Traffic Police stated here on Wednesday that special teams were constituted which briefed motorcyclists and motorists.

They told motorcyclists that driving bikes without helmets and side mirrors or having defective indicators, headlights, rear lights and speed meters was dangerous.

Different seminars were also held to impart safety tips to road users, they stated, adding that more than 500 banners and pan flexes were placed at different locations of the city having road safety messages.

More than 70,000 pamphlets were also distributed among road users having safety tips during drive or using roads, they added.

SSP (Traffic) Malik Matloob said that purpose of the campaign was to ensure safety of motorcyclists and prevent any road accident. He said that many road accidents of motorcyclists occur due to their faulty lights or indicators.

The SSP has appealed to the citizens to follow lane discipline and other traffic rules otherwise strict action would be taken against them.
