A plea to KE

Published February 22, 2017

I HAVE sent 50 letters, followed by reminders and e-mails to the Karachi-Electric, Lyari, but have received no proper response as yet despite a lapse of 32 months. The building, called Haji Ismail Mariwala Building, previously called Gul Zareen Building, constructed on the KPT plot, has not yet been provided with dedicated meters.

The KE, Lyari, was built in 2004, and now the owners are also residing in the building. In March/April, 2014 the contractor fixed fake/bogus meters on the basement, not owned by the K-Electric and with the connivance and underhand dealings of K-Electric Integrated Business Centres (IBCs), I got the fake bills generated in the name of flat owners under theft code ‘ASSD’.

So much so that the dues of builders/owners amounting to Rs3.8m were forcibly imposed on the innocent flat owners and realised from their hard-earned money without their written consent.

Now the high-handedness of KE IBC-I is that they are now disconnecting the power supply of the entire building, including those of regular payers. K-E senior officials are requested to provide us power without fail and guide us about what steps should flat owners take in this regard, as they are being unnecessary penalised for the past 35 months for underhand dealings of K-E.

Also, dedicated meters owned by the KE may kindly be installed in the building as it was constructed in the year 2004 about 13 years ago and the contractor absconded long ago, while innocent flat owners are being punished for others’ fault.
