KOHAT: District nazim Maulana Niaz Mohammad inaugurated the first laboratory for checking quality of milk in Kohat division here on Tuesday.

Livestock director Gul Yar Khan and district nazib nazim Abdur Rasheed were also present on the occasion.

The district nazim and other officials termed the opening of the laboratory a step in the right direction to ensure provision of healthy and unadulterated milk to the people.

They said that now sale of adulterated milk would be effectively checked.

Mr Gul said that it was the first laboratory of its kind in the southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that 13 types of tests could be conducted in the laboratory.

He appealed to the people to report to the livestock department in case they were suspicious about the quality of milk they were using. He said that raiding teams would also collect samples for testing.

LACHI TMA PROTEST: The employees association of Tehsil Muncipal Administration (TMA), Lachi, on Tuesday announced to lock the TMA offices from today (Wednesday) in protest against the nonpayment of salaries.

Expressing solidarity with the employees at a protest meeting, Kohat district nazim and tehsil councillors Alam Khan, Naseem Gul and Hafiz Daud regretted that the provincial government had failed to devise a mechanism for generation of income and payment of salaries by the local government.

Local Government Employees Federation provincial vice-president Bashir Bacha and Lachi TMA employees’ association president Zafarullah said that the workers were poor people and had not paid utility bills and school fee of their children.

Mr Bacha said that after failure of the administration to resolve the issue they had decided to shut the offices from Wednesday (today) till payment of salaries.

COURTS SECURITY: Justice Lal Jan of the Peshawar High Court on Tuesday asked the district administration here to enhance security of the courts.

He visited the Kohat district courts and expressed satisfaction over the existing security situation on the premises.

He was accompanied by district and sessions judge Sultan Tareen and District Bar Association president Javed Panji.

Mr Lal Jan also asked the judges and lawyers to take precautionary safety measures.

He later visited the Hangu district kutchery where he issued similar directives.

SMUGGLING: Jarma police on Tuesday foiled an attempt of smuggling drugs to Quetta from Peshawar in a bus at Muslimabad checkpost on the Indus Highway and seized over four kilogrammes of hashish allegedly from one Abdul Samad, a resident of Dera Ismail Khan.

According to a police statement, Samad was moved to Jarma police station where a case had been registered against him.
