LAHORE: A Lahore High Court division bench on Tuesday adjourned hearing of the Sharifs’ sugar mills’ shifting case as arguments of a senior advocate on behalf of Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mills were in progress.

In his arguments, Advocate Ali Sibtain Fazli mainly stated that permission for shifting of the mills was not required since there was no ban on relocation. He argued that no violation of any law had been committed in shifting of the mills.

The bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah adjourned further hearing till Feb 23 asking the counsel to come up with more arguments.

The bench hearing intra-court appeals of Chaudhry Sugar Mills, Rahim Yar Khan, Ittefaq Sugar Mills, Bahawalpur, and Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mills, Muzaffargarh, against a decision by a single bench striking down the shifting of the mills.

challenged: Eligibility of PML-N MNA from NA-155 (Lodhran) Abdul Rehman Kanju has been challenged before the Lahore High Court.

A voter of the constituency, Safdar Gilani, filed a petition contending that Mr Kanju does not meet the criteria of a public office holder described under Articles 62 & 63 of the Constitution. He alleges that the MNA obtained fabricated academic certificates and also filed nomination papers with fake name. The petitioner claims Sardar Khan is the real name of the MNA. He asked the court to declare Kanju ineligible to hold the seat of the national assembly.

Abdul Rehman Kanju, son of former state minister Siddique Kanju, was elected to the assembly as an independent candidate and later joined the PML-N.
