LAHORE: The capital city police on Sunday claimed to have arrested 110 people, mostly teenagers, for flying kites and seized kites and rolls of string from their possession.
Police also registered 90 cases against those arrested under the Prohibition of Kite Flying (Amendment) Act 2009. Under the law, the kite-flying is prohibited all over the province and it has also been declared a cognizable offence.
A police spokesman said that on the directions of DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf, a crackdown was launched on people selling, making and flying kites.
He said police arrested 110 people from various areas of the city and seized 100 kites and nearly 300 rolls of string from their possession.
The DIG said that no one would be allowed to put the lives of citizens at risk. He appealed to the parents to stop their children from flying kites.
