Passengers robbed of cash, gold

GUJRANWALA, Jan 2: Highwaymen on Wednesday deprived passengers of four wagons of cash and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees and shot at another wagon sped up by its driver to escape on the Pasrur Road.

Reports reaching here revealed four bandits intercepted wagons and collected cash, gold ornaments and wristwatches from the passengers at gunpoint. They beat some of the passengers on resistance.

Meanwhile, they opened firing on a wagon when its driver accelerated its speed seeing bandits signalling. Wagon occupants remained unhurt.

The four fled when a mobile police team appeared on the scene. Investigation is underway.

CAUGHT: A robber was caught by villagers following an exchange of fire in Ahmad Nagar on Wednesday.

Zafar Iqbal was reportedly fleeing after looting valuables from the house when some villagers chased him. He resorted to firing which was returned. Iqbal sustained injuries and was handed over to police by the villagers.

ARREST WARRANTS: The local Banking Court No 2 on Wednesday issued arrest warrants of about a dozen defaulters, including a textile mill owner, and ordered to auction their properties for not returning the bank loan.

Husain Textile Mill owner and others reportedly borrowed Rs2.8 million from various bank branches a couple of years ago but failed to return the amount despite repeated notices by the bank.

Judge Mumtaz Husain ordered that money should be recovered after auctioning their properties.
