GUJRAT: Pakistan’s number one tennis player Aqeel Khan overcame stiff resistance from Davis Cupper Abid Mushtaq to win the final 6-0, 6-2, 6-2 and bag the men’s singles title here at the first Gujrat Gymkhana Open Ranking Tennis Championship on Saturday.

The final lasted one and a half hour as the two players enthralled the spectators.

In the ladies singles final, Pakistan’s number one Ushna Suhail beat talented Sara Mansoor 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 after an exciting contest.

Rashid Malik and Israr Gul beat the pair of Gul Hameed and Maj. Mansoor 6-2, 6-2 to win the doubles title.

Later, chief guest Irfan Kathia gave away the trophies and cash awards to winners and runners-up. Aqeel bagged the top prize of Rs 100,000 while Abid was richer by Rs 50,000 as the runner-up.

Also present on the occasion were MPA Mian Tariq, Dr. Zaki Butt, chairman tennis committee, Adnan Khan, secretary Gujrat Gymkhana, Maj Mansoor Butt and Malik Naeem.
