KABUL, Dec 28: Five security personnel were killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up minutes after being arrested near the Kabul International Airport on Sunday, said an official.

“It happened around 5:30pm (Afghanistan Time) on the western side of Kabul International Airport, killing five security officials, including the head of Defence Minister Faheem’s personal security,” said Mattiullah Khan Rahmani, deputy chief of Kabul’s security.

He said the “terrorist” was also killed in the explosion. Mr Rahmani said personnel of the National Security Department captured the suspect following a chase near the 40 M street known as Sarakey, Chel Metra.

“They took the terrorist in custody and were taking him to a detention centre when the explosion occurred,” he said.

Five security personnel as well as the suicide bomber were killed, he said and added that Dr Jalal, head of Defence Minister Qaseemuddin Faheem’s own security, was among the dead.
