LAHORE: The capital city police on Sunday claimed to have arrested 107 people for flying kites and seized kites and rolls of string from their possession.

Police also registered 93 cases against those arrested under the Prohibition of Kite Flying (Amendment) Act 2009.

Under the law, kite-flying is prohibited all over the province and it was also declared a cognisable offence.

A spokesman said on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) operations Zahid Mehmood Gondal, a crackdown was launched on people selling, making and flying kites.

He said police arrested 107 people from various areas of the city and seized 800 kites and 230 rolls of string from their possession.

The SSP said that no one would be allowed to put the lives of citizens at risk. He appealed to the parents to stop their children for being involved in flying kites.
