SWABI: Speakers at a prize distribution ceremony of All Pakistan TechFest said here on Wednesday that the students receiving education in different disciplines of engineering should develop strong linkages with industry during their studies.

The three-day TechFest was organised by the Society of Mechanical Engineering of Pakistan (SMEP) at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology. Representatives of industry, academic staff and students from all over the country attended the event.

The organisers said that the gathering was aimed at providing a platform to the faculty, industry and students to interact with each other and frame engineering courses according to the requirements of the country’s industry.


Three-day TechFest ends at GIK Institute


The issue of power shortage was also highlighted and discussed that how Pakistan could control the electricity loadshedding and fulfil the power requirements of the country’s industry and consumers.

They said that without ensuring uninterrupted power supply it might not be possible to strengthen the nascent industrial base and provide employment opportunities to the young generation who had completed their higher education.

They said that it was vital to utilise the technology in treating different diseases.

They said that engineers should focus on developing technology which could be utilised in controlling serious health problems, giving a number of examples of application of technology in the health sector.

Waleed Iqbal, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Lahore president, said that the students should focus on creative activities.

“If they remain creative in their student life they would face no difficulties in getting jobs and their practical life will also be more pleasant and successful,” he said.

Saad Saleem, a motivational speaker from Karachi and owner of software houses, said that the students should stick with the principle of hard work and learning process. He spoke about the countless difficulties he experienced but managed to achieve the desired results with strong determination and hard work.

A representative of the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan briefed the participants about the opportunities’ of higher education in the US and getting scholarship to study in different American universities.

Engineering related modules like wind power turbine, gravity vehicle and obstacle tracking robot were displayed in the event to motivate students to concentrate on research work.

Hasnain Raza, SMEP president, and Ahmad Sachal also spoke on the occasion.
