PESHAWAR, Dec 26: Four foreigner women, accused of drug trafficking, are in distress due to non-availability of interpreters.

The counsel of the ladies told dawn that he would be facing problems in these trials as he could not communicate with his clients.

Two of the alleged drug pushers belong to Thailand, whereas the remaining origin from Turkey and Kazakhistan respectively.

The Turkish lady, Ms Fatima Uskarat, 28, was arrested at the Peshawar International Airport on March 21. On search of two bags carried by her, the official recovered 21 kilograms of heroin.

She was handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Force and a case was registered against her. The trial court indicted her on June 18. Her trial is in progress and the court has been recording evidence of different witnesses.

One of the Thai women, Ms Vannapa, was arrested at the airport and an FIR was registered against her on Nov 16. The ANF claimed that she had concealed heroin- filled capsules in her abdomen. Those capsules were filled with 150 grams of heroin.

The second Thai lady, Ms Nuanhom, was also arrested by the ANF on Nov 28 at the airport. She had also swallowed heroin- filled capsules. The ANF had recovered from her 54 capsules carrying 400 grams of heroin.

The Kazak lady, Ms Anna, was having 10 capsules in her abdomen. She was arrested on Nov 20 at the airport. She was carrying 95 grams of heroin.

All the four ladies were having air tickets for different destination. The Turkish lady had claimed that the bag did not belong to her and in fact it belonged to an African lady introduced to her by one of her friends.
